*B*A*S*I*C***M*I*S*T*A*K*E*S* Let me start off by saying Chris Columbus is obviously not the best choice to direct a project like Harry Potter. But giving him the benefit of the doubt, he did an OK job. I do- however- question the presence of J.K. Rowling. When did she EVER say that Harry's scar is offcenter and still scab-like? Why would she allow Peeves to be edited from the film? Why on EARTH would she let them miss-spell Tom Riddle's name, changing the way he revealed his identity in CoS? These questions all lead up to this final question: "Where was J.K. Rowling when the credits were typed!?" Susie Figgis quit, unless I'm much misunderstanding, when she found out that Chris Columbus had hired an American casting director behind her back, but when the credits rolled, what do you think it said but: casting director: SUSIE FIGGIS J.K. Rowling was made THE executive producer, but two screens reveal the names of executive producers, a total of 5 I believe, and J.K. Rowling was not one of them!!! Hagrid's hut, according to the books, is made of wood. Hagrid's hur, according to the movie, is made of stone. Harry, Hermione, Draco, and NEVILLE recieve detention in the forest, according to the books, for being out of bed, mostly due to Norbert's being sent off with Charlie's friends. Harry, Hermione, Draco, and RON recieve detention in the forest, according to the movie, due to Harry, Hermione, and Ron going to Hagrid's and Draco trying to catch them. The movie also recognized that Dumbledore sent Norbert off to live in a "dragon colony" in Romania! The Potions riddle was total cut from the movie, in fact I believe it was never filmed! The fallen troll guarding the stone, which Quirrel had already defeated, was also cut from the movie! In the book Hermione used blue flames to free the 3 of them from Devil's Snare but in the movie she used sunlight to free RON from Devil's Snare. (Is it me or did it seem like Chris Columbus wanted Ron in the movie alot more than he should've been?" I could definately go on, but I hate pointing out so many faults. However, it is pronounced Vaul-da-moor not Vole-da-mort!!! *P*R*A*I*S*E* Daniel Radvliffe was good at acting, I'll give him that. He wasn't quite the Harry I know from reading, but he was a good ACTOR all the same. Emma Watson is probably the best actress at her age. She is also a great actress on any level. She had one of those few breakthrough performances of 2001-2002. No one could have done a better portrayal of Hermion Granger! Emma did the best work out of all people (other than J.K. Rowling) involved in 'Harry Potter' the movie! If I can refrase a line from the movie to inculde Emma then I must say: "It is clear that we can expect great things from you, Miss Watson!" Rupert Grint is the only one who fit the role of Ron the way he did. Probably the second most book-faithful actor in the movie (Emma in first!), Rupert hilarious and astonishing as Ron Weasley. Robby Coltrane had an interesting perfromance. Although he completely fit the books' DESCRIPTION of Hagrid, he wasn't really the Hagrid I thought he should be. Richard Harris is... PERFECT for Dumbledore. I picture Dumbledore a bit more humorous, but Richard did a good job as Dumbledore all the same. (B.T.W. could anyone email me the correct pronunciation of Dumbledore? I heard it was different than the way I've been saying it and I don't have time to look through a pronounciation guide! Thanks!) I'd like to give Dame Maggie Smith praise. Her performance was breathtaking with her mysterious British accent and other seemingly magical characteristics. Finally I give credit to Alan Rickman. He played a deliciously evil Professor Snape. |
