Lily could have been Voldemorts daughter/granddaughter (J.K.R. has declined comment on this topic)! That could be a reason why Voldemort did not kill Lily. That also makes Lily the Heir of Slytherin and speculating that James is the Heir of Gryffindor, Harry would be a very, very powerful wizard. Which could also be the reason why Voldemort wanted to kill Harry, not Lily, because, maybe Harry who is half his blood and the blood of his enemy, is the only one who can DESTROY Voldemort!

It will gradually get darker, with more deaths and possibly one of the less likely candidates will save the day. My bets are on Ginny and Neville to play a significant role in this. I also predict that the new Gryffindor quidditch captain will be Angelina... Finally, I think that it will be Ravenclaw to win the house cup this year.

I think we will find out that Lily Potter was a death eater in her young age but quit because she didn't believe in it. I have also heard rumours that she was Voldemort's daughter and that that is where Petunia gets her evil streak from. I think that Lily was a good person and tried to get away from Voldemort and that is why he killed James and tried to kill Harry but was prepared to spare Lily's life. I believe that when Voldemort tried to kill Harry, Voldemort transfered the source of his imortality into harry's lightning scar but didn't know or else he wouldn't have tried to kill harry in books 1, 2 and 4. and so as long as harry is alive voldemort will be. so harry will have to kill himself in order to end Voldermorts life, but i have heard that in the last book this actually happens i don't know if its true, and i think that at the very end Harry rises from the ashes and lives again! just a theory but it could be true.
